I’m so happy you found us. I know you have a lot of choices when it comes to good tequila so I’m going to cut to the chase and tell you why we’re different. Like wine, tequila gets its flavor from the Earth. The french term for this is ‘terroir’ and when you go down the agave rabbit hole, you’ll eventually find yourself geeking out on blancos (unaged tequilas).
There are 5 states in Mexico where you can grow Blue Agave and call your product tequila. The vast majority of brands buy agave from any of these regions and blend them for consistency. We do not.
We only use agave that we grow on our ranch, which is in the state of Michoacán just south of Jalisco at about 6500’ (elevation). So let’s say there’s a couple dozen single estate tequilas out there, in the last 8 years I have not come across another from Michoacán and as curator of one of San Francisco’s most amazing selections of agave spirits, I’ve tasted a lot (Healthy Spirits on Cortland Avenue).
Mi Casa Tequila is one of the only examples in the world of the Michoacán ‘terroir’.
My name is Eli and I co-founded 1933 Spirits with my parents Ezequiel and Carmen who are the true pillars behind this endeavor, and my sister Cristina. We began growing Blue Agave in 2000 to honor the wishes of my grandfather who was concerned that future generations would lose their connection to the land he loved so much. My dad starting planting agave so his kids (us) would have greater opportunities than he had. I don’t know if tequila was always part of his plan but he brought it to my attention around 2006.
